In the morning of Friday 2 October, the EuroVelo & Cycling Tourism Conference concludes with different themed cycling tours. These technical visits provide an excellent opportunity for further discussions and networking, as well as for experiencing cycling in Utrecht and its region first-hand.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

The access to one technical visit is included in the Conference ticket.\u00a0<\/span>All visits will start and end at Jaarbeurs Utrecht, the venue of the Conference, where luggage storage is possible. At the end of the technical visits, lunch will be served.<\/span><\/p>

For organisational reasons, registrations to the technical visits close on Monday 14 September.<\/strong><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

In the compact province of Utrecht, everything is connected through a high-quality cycling network. How do we ensure that residents and visitors can easily and safely explore recreational and natural areas by bike?<\/p>

During this visit, we will focus on the recently renewed cycling junction network, and how it connects to national LF routes and international EuroVelo routes. We will also explore how thematic cycling routes, linking UNESCO World Heritage sites such as the Dutch Water Defence Lines and the Limes, are developed and brought together into one cohesive network.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

During this cycling route of approximately 30 kilometers, we will guide you along the recently renewed cycling junction network. We will explain the entire process of redesigning a recreational network in which we must make use of the existing infrastructure, sometimes facing difficult choices when selecting the best cycling paths. After all: without paths, there are no routes! We will also explain and show the connection between the regional junction network, the national long distance cycle routes (LF-routes) and the international EuroVelo routes. It\u2019s all coming together!<\/p>

The Province of Utrecht is home to three remarkable UNESCO World Heritage Sites: the world-famous Rietveld Schr\u00f6der House, the strategic Dutch Water Defence Lines, and the ancient Lower German Limes, the former frontier of the Roman Empire.<\/p>

This cycling tour explores how the Dutch node system for recreational cycling serves as much more than a leisure tool.<\/p>

04. Designing Doorfietsroutes: An Integrated Approach to Delivering Cycling Highways<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Join experts from the Dutch Cycling Embassy and Province of Utrecht for a guided tour of the recently-completed F28 doorfietsroute (\u201ccontinuous cycling route\u201d) which connects the centres of Utrecht and Amersfoort. At 23-kilometres long, it offers commuters, students and recreational cyclists a high-quality, nearly non-stop experience between the two cities, passing through five different municipalities.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Representing the next frontier of Dutch cycling infrastructure, Doorfietsroutes are regional connections that take advantage of the extended range of the electric bike. They are designed to relieve traffic pressure, especially peak-hour commuter flows, but in practice have also proven highly attractive for recreational users and tourists thanks to their continuous connectivity. With wider and smoother surfaces, fewer traffic lights and obstacles, and improved lighting, signage and priority at intersections. <\/span><\/p>

To battle the traffic congestion in a rapidly growing region, the Province of Utrecht is investing in a 150-kilometre network of nine Doorfietsroutes connecting its residential, commercial and educational areas.<\/span><\/p>

Yet delivering effective Doorfietsroutes requires more than just physical infrastructure. Delivered by the Dutch Cycling Embassy and experts from our public-private network (including CROW, Province of Utrecht, and Goudappel), this technical tour of the recently-completed F28 Doorfietsroute between Utrecht and Amersfoort<\/span> will demonstrate how hardware (design standards), software (communication and behaviour), and orgware (governance and coordination) must be aligned to plan projects that are not only well-designed, but also well-used and effectively governed.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/details>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

During this active technical visit with MTB Gids Heuvelrug, participants will experience the Dutch approach to trail networks, outdoor recreation and sustainable use of nature areas.
